Science Gateways Presentation

November 8, 2015

In spring of 2015, Dr. Kerk Kee, our Principle Investigator, and Mona Sleiman, OCT Group’s Graduate Research Assistant, presented at a Science Gateways symposium, a virtual organization that comes together to create and develop gateways. The Science Gateways group convenes for a weekly web conference on Fridays to learn about and discuss topics related to the XSEDE community.

The OCT Group had the opportunity to join the conference and lead a discussion on Friday, May 15th. We presented virtually from Dr. Kee’s office at Chapman University.  Kerk and Mona logged onto the conference, where Science Gateway community members were waiting for the presentation.

In our presentation, we discussed the Diffusion of Innovations Theory, the concept that explains the spread of technologies and information. After, we offered preliminary data analysis of the DID project. Based on data analysis of the DID project interviews, we listed characteristics of successful tools and the organizations behind them.

Throughout the presentation, we shared information and allotted time for questions and discussion from Science Gateways members. This was the first time that our group disseminated preliminary findings of the DID project. The presentation was a great opportunity for us to continue building relationships with the XSEDE community. Not to mention, it was the perfect chance for us to create our first YouTube video!

Be sure to follow OCT Group on our other mediums: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Google Plus. Check back next week to see another post from OCT Group – The group that helps you Strategize Your Game Plan.
